In just under two months, Jessica Harrison and Stephanie Nettles transformed the Industrial Rd. storefront that once housed Yummy Yogurt. Their new store, Domestic Divas, officially opened on May 25.
Before opening the brick-and-mortar store, Nettles owned and operated a cleaning service with the same name. When clients became interested in purchasing her homemade, organic cleaning products, she made the decision to expand her business, and Harrison jumped on board.
The store carries products that the owners can be proud of, with an emphasis on natural and local or made in the United States. They carry commodities like local honey, soaps, body butters, cleaning products and Belle Craie chalk paint, Harrison’s area of expertise. Their star product, soaps from The Bartlett Soap Company in Southaven, comes in varieties for the entire family, including a Fierce flavor for men, Zombie Repellant for children and pet soap.
“The greatest benefit of these soaps is that they are plant-based,” Nettles said. “Even recommended soaps like Dove and Aveeno often include animal fats.”
Domestic Divas seeks to replace the products their customers use in their home and on their body with others that are safe and chemical-free. Nettles was originally inspired to create natural cleaning products when she experienced a skin reaction from a common bathroom cleaner. Her entire product line of natural cleaning products is available at the store. Her all-purpose cleaner works for most anything, but she also carries an anti-bacterial tea tree cleaner and a glass cleaner.
“You hear a lot now about allergies, and a lot of those problems can be caused by the products we use,” Nettles said.
In the upcoming months, you can expect more natural and local products to be sold by the Domestic Divas.
